Choose your courses - Bordeaux Montaigne University v1.2

Choose your courses

How to select your courses?

Select your modules from those open to international students in the Humanities, Languages and Civilisations, and STC departments. Choose from the three course catalogues provided by the department below, in line with the requirements of your study agreement. As an exchange student, you must choose at least 50% of your modules from your designated programme.

Find out the details of each course (credits, codes and course descriptions) in the three catalogues provided by the faculties: you must click on the title of the chosen course / the title of the chosen programme in the three faculty course catalogues. You will then be redirected to the general course catalogue at the University of Bordeaux Montaigne.

Enter the information required in your learning agreement.

Contact your academic coordinators : at your home university and at Bordeaux Montaigne University to jointly approve the course list.

Course catalogue for international exchange students

Important: Some courses are only open to students participating in a specific partnership programme (e.g. Bachelor’s in Fine Arts). You must have been nominated by your home university to take these courses. Modules entitled “internship”; “bonus1”; “bonus2”; “specialised pathways”, as well as introductory teaching units, are not open to exchange students. A Teaching Unit (UE) generally consists of ECUE (constituent elements of a UE). These ECUE may be lectures or tutorials (training courses/tutorial classes/seminars, etc.).

Research work, Master’s theses and PhD research placements do not award ECTS credits.

Courses and exams

  • Courses: attend all lectures ("cours magistraux/CM"  and "travaux dirigés"/TD). Regular attendance is a key factor in student success!

At the beginning of the semester, introduce yourself to your professors.

  • Exams:

throughout the semester, you will be assessed through a system of continuous assessment (specific works implemented by the professor, oral presentation, commentary, essay…). You will be called for your exams by your professor: pay attention to your emails ; information given during courses…

For some courses there may be several assessments to do, and therefore several marks which will be averaged on your ‘transcript of records’.

Any absence from an examination must be justified (medical certificate, summons…). In the event of unjustified absence, ‘ABI’ will appear on your transcript of records = unjustified absence. It will be impossible to make up an examination that has not been taken.

The French university grading system is based on grades from 0 to 20 :

A grade below 10 means failing.

"ABI" or "Absent" means that the student did not sit the exam, and therefore will not earn any ECTS Credits.

"Assidu(e)" means the student did not sit the exam but participated in tutorial classes, lectures or seminars. The student will NOT earn any ECTS Credits
