1- Apply - Bordeaux Montaigne University v1.2

Step 1 – Submit your application

Before submitting your application

Before submitting your application, you must:

  • check whether a partnership exists (Erasmus+, agreements and conventions) between your institution and the University of Bordeaux Montaigne;
  • be nominated by your institution: contact your home institution and follow the procedure;
  • plan your budget for the stay;
  • level of French: as the majority of courses are taught in French, a minimum level of French is required. For Erasmus+ students, a B1 level is recommended (B2 or even C1 is an advantage). However, no certificate is required. For non-European students on Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes, you must provide a certificate or diploma demonstrating a minimum B2 level in French. Language certificates must be submitted at the same time as the application.

Your application has been accepted by the University of Bordeaux Montaigne

Step 1 – Nomination by your home university and registration

Your home university nominates you to the Mobility Centre at the University of Bordeaux Montaigne, which will then contact you so that you can register before the given deadline. All information will be sent to you by the Mobility Centre.

  • Erasmus+ exchange students: by 31 May for a placement starting in September; by 15 November for a placement starting in January
  • International students under a bilateral agreement: by 15 April for a placement starting in September; by 31 October for a placement starting in January

Step 2 – The letter of acceptance

The Mobility Office at Bordeaux Montaigne University will send you the letter of acceptance by email after the registration deadline, once your application has been officially approved.

Visa application procedure for non-European students

Your visit to France is subject to obtaining a visa, which is issued following validation of your level of French during the ‘Etudes en France’ procedure, unless otherwise specified.

Your visa application will be submitted to the French consulate/embassy in your home country. Please remember to include the letter of acceptance and the accommodation confirmation sent to you by the CROUS, or any document proving an official booking for accommodation (copy of the tenancy agreement with a private landlord or a letting agency).

The validation of the long-stay visa serving as a residence permit (VLS-TS) is carried out in accordance with the following procedure: link to the French government website.
